Bruce Willis and Demi Moore swiftly became one of Hollywood's hottest power couples when they started dating in the 1980s. The thespian duo were married for 13 years and share three daughters together: Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.

Willis has since moved on with model Emma Heming, and the couple are proud parents to two young daughters, Mabel and Evelyn.

Bruce Willis

Born on 19 March 1955 in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, Bruce Willis is the patriarch of the showbiz dynasty.

The Hollywood icon is estimated to be worth an impressive $250 million (£202m), so let’s find out how he built his fortune…

Bruce Willis: TV star

Willis launched his acting career in the early 1980s with minor roles in TV shows including Miami Vice and The Twilight Zone.

His big break came when he scored the lead role in the ABC detective series Moonlighting, which he starred in between 1985 and 1989.

In 1987, his stellar performance as investigator David Addison Jr. saw him earn both the Emmy for Outstanding Lead in a Drama Series and the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series.

Bruce Willis: endorsement deals

In 1986, at the peak of his Moonlighting fame, the rising star landed his first major endorsement deal with Seagram to promote their Golden Wine Cooler. Willis was paid around $7 million to appear in a series of adverts for the drinks brand, which is around $19.3 million (£16m) in today’s money.

His money-spinning partnership with Seagram ended in 1988 when the actor quit drinking alcohol. However, this lifestyle change didn’t stop him from signing on as the international face of Sobieski Vodka in 2009, in a deal that saw him receive a 3.3% stake in the business.

Bruce Willis: Die Hard

Willis is arguably best known for playing John McClane in the Die Hard franchise. He earned a cool $5 million for the first instalment in 1988, which equates to around $13 million (£10.5m) today.

His salary for the 1990 sequel jumped up to $7.5 million, and he received a staggering $15 million for 1995’s Die Hard: With a Vengeance. For the final two movies, 2007’s Die Hard 4.0 and 2013’s A Good Day to Die Hard, he earned an incredible $25 million.

This means Willis has banked a grand total of $77.5 million from the action-packed franchise – or around $101.6 million (£82m) when factoring in inflation.

Bruce Willis: unbelievable payday

While it might be hard to believe, John McClane isn’t actually Willis’s most profitable movie role. He actually earned his juiciest salary playing Malcolm Crowe in the 1999 low-budget horror movie The Sixth Sense.

The star earned an upfront fee of $14 million for the project – or $25.7 million (£21m) when inflation-adjusted – and also negotiated himself a 17.5% share of the box office takings.

The savvy deal paid off when the indie flick became an unexpected hit, grossing an inflation-adjusted sum of $1.2 billion (£960m). Willis ultimately took home $114 million for his performance, or a jaw-dropping $209 million (£167m) in today’s money.

As well as being Willis's most lucrative movie role, his astronomical salary from The Sixth Sense is the single highest Hollywood payday of all time.

Bruce Willis: movie star

Among Willis’s other impressive acting paydays are the superhero movie Unbreakable, for which he earned $20 million, and the World War II epic Hart’s War, for which he banked $22.5 million.

When factoring in inflation, he earned $35.8 million (£29m) and $38.4 million (£31m) respectively for the two movies.

Other pulse-racing flicks he's starred in over the years include the likes of The Expendables, Red, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Bruce Willis: musical alter ego

While we all know Willis is a world-class actor, it might surprise you to discover that he's also dabbled in music.

Using the stage name Bruno Radolini, he released his debut album, The Return of Bruno, in 1987. At the same time, HBO released a mockumentary in which Willis starred as his rock star alter ego, with appearances from musicians such as Ringo Starr, Elton John, and Jon Bon Jovi.

Willis’s follow-up album, If It Don’t Kill You, It Just Makes You Stronger, was released in 1989, though he ultimately put music on the back burner to focus on his movie career.

Bruce Willis: retirement

In March 2022, Willis announced his retirement from showbiz. His family revealed that he had been diagnosed with aphasia, which affects the portion of the brain that controls language and speech.

In February 2023, the 68-year-old star was further diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, which sadly has no cure.

Bruce's final acting performance was in the action flick Assassin, which was released earlier this year.

Let's take a look at how Willis has spent his money over the years...
