Donald Trump's bathroom secrets

It's been quite the year for former president Donald Trump, who's been indicted four times in the past 12 months. Back in June, he was charged with 40 counts relating to the alleged mishandling of classified government files at his Mar-a-Lago estate, some of which were discovered in one of the property's gilded washrooms. With his trial date set for March 2024, let's take a look at Trump's other bathroom secrets. From the stolen solid-gold toilet to his Air Force Once ensuite, click or scroll through for more...

Trump's toilet sagas

One part of the June indictment has proved particularly compelling: the photographs. Published alongside the document by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) the photographs show White House documents stored in a Mar-a-Lago ballroom, and even next to a toilet in a bathroom at the estate. In other surreal Trump toilet news, it came to light in 2022 via New York Times correspondent, Maggie Haberman’s tell-all book that while Trump was in office, White House staff would allegedly find wads of official printed papers clogging a toilet “and believed the president was responsible.” If true, it would be a “violation of the Presidential Records Act”, according to Courtney Chartier, president of the Society of American Archivists as reported by The Washington Post.

Trump's rejected gold toilet

This eye-wateringly shiny toilet is made of solid gold, and was designed by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. Originally the golden WC was reportedly installed at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. While president, the 18-karat latrine was offered to gold lover Donald Trump after declining his request to borrow Vincent Van Gogh’s 'Landscape with Snow' for the White House. Interestingly enough, Trump turned the gilded potty down. In 2019, the artwork, so-called ‘America’, was moved to Winston Churchill’s birthplace in Blenheim Palace, where it was shockingly stolen. Years later the culprits have still not been found and the mystery of the $4.8 million (£4m) toilet goes on...

Gilded Boeing 757 ensuite

The bathroom in Air Force One must have been a comedown for former President Trump if the master bath in his private Boeing 757 jet is anything to go by. The glitzy space has a soft leather-covered toilet, a gilded towel rail and a gold-plated sink.

Hopefully to dispel its ‘cursed’ history, the abandoned building is now a place of worship having been passed on to the Living Word Sanctuary Church in 2014.
