The stars of MASH today
Following a team of US Army doctors and support staff stationed at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) during the Korean War, dramedy MASH hit TV screens in 1972 and ran for an epic 11 seasons.
The much-loved sitcom was a spin-off of the 1970 feature film of the same name, which was in turn based on the 1968 novel MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors.
Unfortunately, a few of the cast members of MASH have passed away in the years since the show ended, including Wayne Rogers, Harry Morgan, and McLean Stevenson.
However, many of its famous faces, including Loretta Swit and Alan Alda, are still around today – with some continuing to work into their twilight years. Read on to take a trip down memory lane and discover which star of MASH is the richest in 2023. All dollar amounts in US dollars.
Jeff Maxwell: $300,000
Jeff Maxwell played the recurring role of hapless kitchen porter Igor Straminsky. He joined the show in season two and featured in various episodes until the season 11 finale.
While Maxwell's earlier appearances in the series went uncredited, he swiftly cemented his status as a fan favorite thanks to his comedic performance.
MASH signaled a big break for the actor, whose previous roles had included an uncredited part in the 1974 horror comedy Young Frankenstein and a role in TV series The Waltons.
Jeff Maxwell: $300,000
After MASH wrapped, Maxwell scored a small role in the 1984 comedy flick Night Patrol and also appeared in the 80s comedy series The New Gidget.
The 76-year-old has since stepped away from the camera, with his last credited performance being the 2001 comedy movie Divorce: The Musical.
Along with actor Ryan Patrick, Maxwell now hosts a podcast called MASH Matters, where they discuss the beloved series and Hollywood in general.
Online sources estimate Maxwell's net worth is a modest $300,000.
Odessa Cleveland: $2.5 million
Odessa Cleveland portrayed Lieutenant Ginger Bayliss, a recurring character throughout the first four seasons of MASH.
Before landing her role in the popular series, Cleveland had already flexed her acting chops in the 70s TV shows The D.A. and The Bold Ones: The New Doctors.
Odessa Cleveland: $2.5 million
Following her MASH stint, Cleveland scored a role in the 1977 TV movie Father Knows Best: Home for Christmas and also made an uncredited appearance in the MASH spin-off Trapper John, M.D.
By the 80s, Cleveland had all but disappeared from the spotlight. However, after a 24-year hiatus, she made a surprise return to the screen in 2010 thanks to a role in thriller flick Death and Cremation.
Cleveland, now 79, has reinvented herself as a writer and poet, penning tomes such as the anthology Of Age and Edges.
Online sources estimate her net worth at a cool $2.5 million.
Loretta Swit: $4 million
Loretta Swit brought the character of Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan to life.
As well as being the only woman to feature in the main cast of MASH, Swit also won two Emmy awards for her work on the show.
Before her critically acclaimed MASH performance put her firmly on the map, the actress had already appeared in numerous TV shows, including Mission: Impossible and Gunsmoke. She also had a role in the 1972 comedy flick Stand Up and Be Counted.
Loretta Swit: $4 million
After MASH wrapped, Swit went on to enjoy a decade-spanning acting career. She's appeared in several small-screen hits, including The Love Boat, Diagnosis Murder and Murder, She Wrote.
She's also graced the stage over the years, most notably starring in the one-woman play Shirley Valentine between the 1990s and the 2010s.
Now in her mid-80s, Swit's career has naturally slowed down in recent years. According to IMDb, her last credited performance was in the 2019 movie Play the Flute.
Her time in the spotlight has earned her an estimated fortune of $4 million.
Jamie Farr: $6 million
Jamie Farr played Corporal Maxwell Q. Klinger throughout the entire run of MASH.
The role was initially recurring, though Farr scored series regular status by the fourth season after his comical character became a hit with viewers.
Farr launched his acting career back in 1955, making his debut screen appearance in the drama movie Blackboard Jungle. Years before he landed his MASH role, he'd actually served in Korea, and he later wore his own US Army dog tags while starring in the series.
Jamie Farr: $6 million
Farr (pictured here with co-star Loretta Swit) went on to star in the short-lived MASH spin-off series AfterMASH.
Outside of the show that made his name, he's featured in a number of popular TV shows, including That '70s Show, Family Guy, and Murder, She Wrote.
Now aged 89, Farr's most recently credited performance on IMDb is the 2019 TV series The Cool Kids.
His decade-spanning career has earned him an estimated total fortune of $6 million.
Gary Burghoff: $6 million
Gary Burghoff played the beloved Walter "Radar" O'Reilly during the first eight seasons of MASH.
He's the only actor to have appeared in both the original MASH movie and the TV series.
MASH made the actor a household name and he landed a prestigious Emmy award for his performance on the show in 1977.
Gary Burghoff: $6 million
Burghoff went on to star in the TV series AfterMASH, and WALTER, a spin-off that never made it past the pilot episode.
He also tried his hand at directing in 1992, helming the R-rated thriller flick Small Kill.
The 80-year-old has seemingly left the entertainment industry behind him, with his last credited acting role coming in the 2010 movie Daniel's Lot.
Burghoff has undoubtedly retired in style, with an estimated net worth of $6 million.
Mike Farrell: $10 million
Latecomer Mike Farrell joined the cast of MASH in season four, playing Captain B.J. Hunnicutt.
Already an established actor prior to landing the role, Farrell made his screen debut in 1963.
His impressive pre-MASH filmography included TV shows such as Lassie and Days of Our Lives, as well as a small part in the movie The Graduate.
Mike Farrell: $10 million
After MASH, Farrell appeared in a slew of small-screen hits, including modern shows like Desperate Housewives, Supernatural, and American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace.
He's also turned his hand to producing, most notably working on the 1998 Robin Williams movie Patch Adams.
Now in his 80s, Farrell's last credited role was in the TV show NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service in 2019.
His decades-long career has earned the actor an estimated fortune of $10 million.
Alan Alda: $50 million
Alan Alda played Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce in all eleven seasons of MASH.
He's the only actor to have appeared in every single episode of the show, and he won an impressive five Emmy awards for his efforts.
Already a veteran actor before joining the cast of MASH, Alda made his debut on The Phil Silvers Show in 1958. Other early credits included TV shows such as Naked City and Route 66.
Alan Alda: $50 million
Alda's impressive post-MASH filmography includes the Martin Scorsese movie The Aviator (2004), the Ben Stiller comedy Tower Heist (2011), and the critical darling Marriage Story (2019). He's also starred in shows such as The West Wing (for which he won a sixth Emmy), 30 Rock, and The Blacklist.
He's also worked behind the camera over the years, directing episodes of MASH and movies such as The Four Seasons (1981) and A New Life (1988).
And the 87-year-old shows no signs of slowing down, having most recently appeared in TV flick Ray Donovan: The Movie last year.
Alda's admirable work ethic has earned him an estimated net worth of $50 million.
